Chip Kelly's frustration showed Sunday after the Philadelphia Eagles'Â 33-30 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Frustration over an offense that missed opportunities to score. Frustration over a defense unable to get off the field.
"Obviously, we left points out there offensively," the Eagles coach said. "You can't do that against a good team. So when you play against a good quarterback, you have to be as sharp as you can."
Michael Vick threw for 428 yards and two touchdowns (with one rushing score), but it was the plays not made that stuck. A penalty took away one score, and Vick missed DeSean Jackson on several deep shots.
Still, the Eagles scored 30 points and couldn't win.
"Maybe we need to score 37 points," Vick said.
The reality that the Eagles' offense will need to carry the defense this year seemed to be setting in.
The defense's proverbial head was spinning throughout Sunday's game as Philip Riversthrew for 419 yards and three touchdowns.
"Philip Rivers just seemed to know everything we were trying to throw at him," cornerback Cary Williams said. "They understood some of our calls. It looked like he knew exactly what DeMeco (Ryans) was calling to a degree, he knew exactly what we were in, to a degree."
The defense, or lack thereof, had Rivers as giddy as we've seen him in a while after the game.
"It was a gutty win," Rivers said. "One like I can't remember us having in a while. ... And it feels awesome to win one of these."
