Joe Philbin: Dolphins 'got a helluva team in the making'

On Sunday night's "Around The League Podcast," we touched on the Miami Dolphins' impressive performance in their 24-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Coming out of an offseason in which Miami (2-0) raided the free-agent market, the question was if the moves would pay off.

So far, so good.

General manager Jeff Ireland's additions on offense and defense played lead roles against Indy, highlighted by another strong showing from cornerback Brent Grimes. The former Atlanta Falcon hauled in a key fourth-quarter pick of an Andrew Luck pass and proved, again, to be Miami's most reliable player in the secondary.

"We're 2-0 and we've won two games on the road. In this league, that's huge," Grimes said, per the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

At linebacker, newcomers Philip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe combined for 26 tackles on a defense that sacked Luck three times. On offense, we saw receiver Mike Wallace awaken with nine catches for 115 yards and one score.

"We got a helluva team in the making!" Philbin told his players after the win, per the team's official website.

Young quarterback Ryan Tannehill sits at the center of it all, but the Dolphins are unbeaten because all the pieces fit together. Offseason shopping sprees can go all sorts of wrong -- we see it in every sport -- but the Dolphins' splurge has them notched atop the AFC East with eight home games still on the slate. Not too shabby.
