Josh Freeman, Greg Schiano have 'growing disconnect'

The rocky relationship between Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman and coach Greg Schiano isn't smoothing out anytime soon.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday on NFL Network's "NFL GameDay Morning" that the situation in Tampa continues to grow uncomfortable. (Sunday's 16-14 home loss to the New Orleans Saints won't help.)

"There is a growing disconnect, some serious tension between Josh Freeman and coach Greg Schiano," Rapoport said, citing several sources close to the situation. "People close to Freeman do believe that Schiano rigged the vote and did not allow him to be captain. People close to Freeman say the quarterback is frustrated that Schiano went public with the fact that he was late to a team meeting."

Despite the uncomfortable relationship, Rapoport said the Bucs continue to insist Freeman is their starting quarterback.

That stance might change in the future.

Rookie quarterback Mike Glennon, drafted in the third round, is waiting in the wings, preparing possibly to start either this season or in the future.

Freeman is in the final year of his rookie contract, and his future in Tampa isn't looking good. CBS Sports reported Sunday that Freeman is "likely to ask for" a trade before next month's deadline.

Glennon is viewed as "Schiano's guy" within the organization, according to the CBS report. It sounds like just a matter of time before a divorce between Schiano and Freeman is finalized.
