Dez Bryant's nascent NFL MVP campaign stumbled out of the gate in the Dallas Cowboys' 36-31 victory Sunday night.
After being kept in check by New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara's tight coverage with safety help over the top, Bryant sustained a sprained left foot late in the fourth quarter.
Although Bryant slammed his helmet in frustration once he reached the sideline, he was able to re-enter the game. Post-game X-rays were negative, according to ESPNDallas.com.
Bryant said Monday that he expects to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2, but he couldn't commit to practicing Wednesday.
The receiver conceded that the injury "hurts a little." With an MRI coming, the fourth-year pro isn't out of the woods just yet.
Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne, who suffered a dislocated shoulder during Sunday night's game, also is expected to suit up versus the Chiefs, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Both players have exhibited a tendency to get nicked up since arriving in Dallas. While Bryant receives credit for playing through lower-body pain in the past, his production has a tendency to fall off when he's less than 100 percent.
Don't be surprised if Jason Witten, Miles Austin and DeMarco Murray do the heavy lifting in Dallas' passing game for a second consecutive week.
