Indianapolis Colts rookie safety John Boyett was arrested early Monday on preliminary charges of disorderly public intoxication and resisting law enforcement after an altercation with police, according to Marion County Jail records obtained by NFL.com and NFL Network.
"You can't arrest me; I'm a Colts player," Boyett repeatedly told the officers, according to The Indianapolis Star, citing a police report that described the 23-year-old's behavior as "very abusive."
Boyett later threatened a police officer, according to the report, saying he was "going to come back and break your jaw."
Boyett was waived by the Colts on Tuesday. The organization has yet to comment on the matter.
The former Oregon Duck was selected by the Colts in the sixth round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Before his release, Boyett had been on the non-football injury list because of knee ailments that limited him to only one game last season, according to The Associated Press.
The incident occurred at a downtown Indianapolis bar after an employee notified an ununiformed officer that Boyett refused to leave after being cut off because he was "too intoxicated," the report stated.
The Colts did not immediately respond to The Star's request for comment.
