Through two preseason games, Vick has done everything possible to win the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback job. On Thursday night, he completed his first nine passes for 105 yards and rushed for another 20 in a 14-9 preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers. His appearance ended with an interception on a Hail Mary throw to end the first half, but that shouldn't tarnish his spotless preseason.
Vick looked calm in the pocket, going to his secondary read on a beautiful throw to convert a third-and-long. He looks very comfortable in coach Chip Kelly's offense, with just two incompletions on 15 preseason passes.
"I think this year within this offense taught me how to prepare myself again and how to gain that confidence," Vick told NFL.com's Aditi Kinkhabwala afterward. "How to approach the game because it all starts with your belief and your faith. I know I can get it done. I know I'm one of the best in this league."
Foles, who started in Thursday's game, moved the ball well and ran for a touchdown, but he also turned over the ball for a second consecutive week. He made a big mental error on an interception in the red zone, which killed the Eagles' first promising drive.
The Eagles' offense was a lot of fun to watch for a second consecutive week. It was up-tempo and creative, sometimes having four tight ends on the field at the same time.
