Following the Washington Redskins' preseason opener, coach Mike Shanahan wouldn't publicly commit to increasing Robert Griffin III's practice duties. It sounds like Shanahan was just being coy: Griffin is ready to ramp up his activity.
Mike Jones and Mark Maske of The Washington Post reported Sunday that the Redskins' starting quarterback is expected to begin to work in 11-on-11 drills at Tuesday's practice. Jones also spoke about the news Monday morning on NFL Network's "NFL AM."Â
RGIII has been limited to 7-on-7 drills thus far during training camp following recovery from ACL surgery. The second-year pro has expressed some anxiety about wanting to get back on the field for full team drills, but Shanahan has been very cautious bringing his star pupil along. Griffin won't play in the preseason, although he cautiously is expected to play in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
We won't assume anything about Griffin's return until it happens. The Redskins know his rehabilitation is more important than just the 2013 season.
