A.J. Green likely to miss Bengals' preseason opener

The Cincinnati Bengals are staying cautious with A.J. Green's knee.

The team's star wide receiver is unlikely to travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons in the Bengals' first preseason game on Aug. 8, according to the team's official website.

Green hasn't practiced since he banged up his knee in last Thursday's session. The Bengals are in no mood to rush him back, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis initially called Green's injury a "knee bruise," meaning the receiver would likely play if the game had any tangible meaning. Green should be fine for the Bengals' regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 1.

The team also listed receiver Andrew Hawkins (ankle) as a no-travel candidate for the Falcons game, along with offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee).
