One day after working out for the Washington Redskins, Nick Barnett agreed to a one-year contract with the team, a person who spoke with the linebacker told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Wednesday. The team announced the signing Thursday.
Although Barnett led the Buffalo Bills in tackles last season, he had received scant interest on the open market while rehabbing an undisclosed injury. He remains strong in run support but too often was exposed in coverage against tight ends and running backs last season. His skill set is best suited to a 3-4 defense such as the one the Redskins run under defensive coordinator Jim Haslett.
