Art Monk, Darrell Green: Redskins' name warrants talk

Owner Dan Snyder says the Washington Redskins never will change their team name and generally has been unwilling to entertain political and media pleas to the contrary. But perhaps Snyder will listen to his former players.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk believes a name change should be "seriously considered."

Hall of Fame coverage
NFL Network will have complete coverage of the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony -- a 50th year celebration in Canton -- on Saturday, Aug. 3 starting at 4 p.m. ET.

"(If) Native Americans feel like Redskins or the Chiefs or (another) name is offensive to them, then who are we to say to them, 'No, it's not?' " Monk said Tuesday on WTOP-FM.

Another Hall of Fame opinion: "It deserves and warrants conversation because somebody is saying, 'Hey, this offends me,'" Darrell Green commented.

The drumbeat for possibly changing the Redskins' nickname never has been louder or more consistent than this offseason. Guys like Monk and Green speaking out on the matter might genuinely change the conversation.
