Marcus Lattimore to work with a S.C. Medicaid program

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore will work with a Medicaid program in the state to encourage those between the ages of 17 and 21 to visit their doctors for checkups.

The San Francisco 49ers rookie has been selected to push the program by Charleston's First Choice by Select Health of South Carolina to encourage young people to visit the doctor.

More than 7,500 First Choice members in that age group will get a personalized telephone message from Lattimore next month encouraging them to see the doctor.

Lattimore's statement points out that it's important to eat properly, be active and get regular medical checkups.

The 21-year-old Lattimore is recovering from his second knee surgery after he was hurt in the Tennessee game last year.
