The Minnesota Vikings will be without their leading tackler for the remainder of offseason practices.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced Tuesday that weak-side linebacker Chad Greenway, No. 70 on NFL Network's "Top 100 Players of 2013,"Â will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday after feeling "a little tension" and "some tenderness" during organized team activities.
"He won't miss any training camp or anything like that," Frazier said, via Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com. "Just wanted to get it done right now, rather than run into a situation where we get to camp and it continued to bother him and we had some issues we'd have to deal with that there."
Greenway has led the Vikings in tackles for five consecutive seasons, earning a Pro Bowl nod for the effort in each of the past two years. His healthy return takes on greater importance with Erin Henderson moving to middle linebacker and the strong side up for grabs.
UPDATE: Greenway had some residual fraying of the meniscus in the knee, Pelissero reported, according to a source informed of the injury.
