Donovan McNabb: RG3 remarks not personal; I'm a fan

We don't doubt Donovan McNabb has good intentions when he says he'd like to lend a guiding hand to Robert Griffin III.

We do wonder if McNabb understands how any intended message could be lost by publicly sharing his criticisms of the Washington Redskins quarterback. During a Monday phone interview on "NFL Total Access," McNabb was asked by Lindsay Rhodes if he believes Griffin will be less likely to hear him out now that McNabb has gone to the press.

"Not at all, not at all. This is something that I think has been going on for before I played football," said McNabb, a former Pro Bowl quarterback who now works as an analyst for NFL Network. "Just kind of guys sitting down with some of the younger guys to prepare them for what they'll be faced with. Also, talk a little bit about what's going on in his life, get to know him as a person -- I'm a fan of his.

"I've watched him, I've watched the young generation that's playing now and been a fan and loved the game of football. Any time that anyone can give you anything, I mean Deion (Sanders) has been doing it, Michael Irvin has been doing it, so why can't I talk to the guys?"

An NFL Network poll found that 59 percent of viewers agree with McNabb's take on Griffin's decision-making this offseason. We'll have another update on this situation when RG3 reaches out to McNabb.

So yeah, this probably is our last post on the matter.
