Two men have been arrested and charged in the stabbing of Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Mike Adams during an attempted carjacking.
Pittsburgh police said Tuesday two people had been charged in connection to the stabbing: Michael Paranay, 25, of Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood, and Dequay Means, 26, also of Hazelwood.
Both were charged by police with multiple crimes, including criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. Both men were taken to the Allegheny County jail, police said.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Adams is expected to make a full recovery and understands how lucky he is that he was not more seriously hurt.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quoted Tuesday a criminal complaint that said Adams had left the Cambod-Ican Kitchen at 17th and East Carson streets shortly before 3 a.m. when three men confronted him. One man had a knife, the other had a gun. Parnay, according to the complaint, told Adams that his black Ford F-150 Raptor was a nice truck, and Means said, "Gimme your car."
Adams didn't have his car keys. He told the men, "You aren't gonna shoot me on the street in front of people," the complaint said.
Means responded, according to the complaint, "I want your car, or I'll shoot you in the face and kill you in front of everyone."
Adams told investigators that it was Parnay who punched him the face. Another person, who hadn't been arrested as of Tuesday, was the one who stabbed him. All three men ran away.
Police said Tuesday they were still searching for the third possible attacker.
