The San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday that Montana, the son of Joe, worked out at the 49ers' one-day rookie minicamp Friday in Santa Clara. He also participated in a pro day for the 49ers and attended the team's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis on May 10-12.

Nate Montana is a long shot to go with the 49ers into training camp, much less make their roster or practice squad. But the former backup at Pasadena City College, Notre Dame and the University of Montana has received something from the 49ers that no other NFL team was willing to give: a chance.
