The veteran left tackle told NFL.com's Albert Breer via text that he's taking a physical with the Chargers on Wednesday.

McKinnie visited with the Chargers on Tuesday night, a day after he met with the Miami Dolphins. The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday the Chargers characterized their meeting with McKenzie as a "good visit," though no contract talks had begun.

That might change if McKinnie's physical checks out without any issues. The Chargers have a glaring hole on quarterback Philip Rivers' blindside after their failed investment in Jared Gaither last season. King Dunlap and Mike Harris are the only in-house options at the moment.

Of course, McKinnie doesn't come without some risk. He's battled weight issues in the past and will turn 34 in September. He proved he still can play at a high level during the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl run, but motivation always will be a concern.
