Sharrif Floyd gets draft-week call from K.C. Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey called to check in on Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd on Monday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

Are the Chiefs preparing to shock the world with the No. 1 pick when most predict Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel or Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher will be selected? Does the organization plan to trade down to grab Floyd a few picks later? Is it all a smoke screen?

Welcome to the NFL this week where rumors and predictions are all over the place. Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner's stock reportedly is dropping all of a sudden. Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel is now the second coming of Cam Newton and a first-round option. Alabama's Eddie Lacy, supposedly, is no longer the top running back.

There are few sure bets early in this draft, so things can go in any direction. 

Update: Floyd revealed to Eric Davis on Wednesday's "NFL AM" that the Chiefs only called to verify his age after one source on the Internet listed him as being born in 1991 (he was born in 1992).
