Alabama's Eddie Lacy says he's 'as complete as it gets'

Eddie Lacy's pre-draft workout was a disappointment. The Alabama running back had major conditioning issues after missing the NFL Scouting Combine and the Crimson Tide's pro day because of a hamstring injury.

Lacy explained to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tyler Dunne that he was out of shape because his hamstring was still causing problems.

"By the time it was anywhere close to 100 percent, I only had two weeks to train," Lacy said Friday. "Everybody knows that two weeks is not enough time, pretty much to do anything. I went out there, I did the best I could do and I got through everything, but there was really nothing I could do about it."

Lacy is the clear-cut No. 1 running back in the 2013 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns last season and is a prototypical three-down back. Lacy told the Journal Sentinel multiple times that he's the "complete package."

"I don't want to say it's rare, but those only come around every once in a while," Lacy said. "You have guys who are fast and can get around the outside but they can't really get the tough yards. Then you have the bigger backs who can get those tough yards, but they're not agile enough to make a defender miss.

"I'm pretty much as complete as it gets."

Lacy will be the first back off the board, but the question is when and to where. The Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos and New York Jets all have a need. There are doubts, though, that he or anyone at the position will go in the first round. There's a drop-off after Lacy, so the second round might be too late for a team to target him. Especially one with a late second-rounder.

Lacy is one of the most intriguing prospects considering his ability to stay on the field. He might be very valuable in a league that has few true, every-down halfbacks.
