Josh Brent not expected at Dallas Cowboys' workouts

There was speculation in the Dallas newspapers regarding whether Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent would show up to the start of the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program. Now, we have an answer.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that Brent isn't expected to show up at voluntary offseason conditioning at Valley Ranch, according to a source informed of his decision.

Brent's lawyer continues to wade through the legal process following his arrest last season, and Brent also is dealing with issues deemed essential to life off the football field. Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of teammate Jerry Brown Jr. following a car crash in December. Brent is undergoing alcohol counseling and grief counseling.

It previously was reported that Brent will not play with the Cowboys this season. A suspension by the NFL is expected, although that remains up in the air as Brent's legal situation unfolds.
