Bernard Scott, Cincinnati Bengals agree on contract

The Cincinnati Bengals have needed help in their backfield all offseason. They will start to build up their depth by bringing back a familiar name.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com first reported Friday that Bernard Scott is headed back to the team. USA Today later reported Scott agreed to a one-year contract, according to his agent Scott Casterline.

Scott met with the Oakland Raidersearlier this week but chose to stay with his only professional home.

We don't think this will stop the Bengals from drafting a running back early in the 2013 NFL Draft. They still need an explosive talent, and Scott probably doesn't qualify. He averaged only 3.4 yards-per-carry in 2011, then missed nearly all of last season due to an injury. The Bengals also have Cedric Peerman on the roster, but we'd expect a second- or third-round pick at running back to join the mix.
