Tyrann Mathieu reportedly failed 10-plus drug tests

Tyrann Mathieu is attracting plenty of interest in the lead-up to this month's 2013 NFL Draft.

The former LSU cornerback is embarking on a 10-stop tour with teams that hope to gain a clear picture of Mathieu's NFL potential and troubled past.

"This is his job interview," Mathieu's agent, Patrick Lawlor, recently told Jarrett Bell of USA Today. "It's just a matter of presenting himself as a professional."

Mathieu has chosen an honest approach to his well-documented substance-abuse issues, giving a point-blank answer to one anonymous NFL assistant coach when asked how many drug tests he failed.

"I quit counting at 10. I really don't know," Mathieu said, according to the coach, who argued LSU is partly to blame: "If he flunked 10 tests before they suspended him, it shows that he got no kind of help," the coach added.

A fair point, but Mathieu -- past aside -- now must prove to potential future employers he's worth the risk, especially when he'll be asked to trade in a coddled campus existence for the pressures of the NFL.
