Lilja, 31, indicated after last season that he would retire, but he was receptive to the idea of returning, according to The Star.
Lilja is rehabbing from surgeries on his knee and toe, and no deal is imminent, The Star reported.
A versatile lineman, Lilja played well after his position switch last season for the 12th-ranked offensive line, according to Pro Football Focus.
If Lilja does return, it will be to add depth and insurance to the line. Hudson is slotted to return at center, Jeff Allen and Jon Asamoah are returning at the guard spots and the Chiefs also signed Geoff Schwartz, who can play both guard and tackle. However, Allen struggled last season after being forced into the lineup as a rookie, and Lilja might be great insurance if Allen doesn't improve as projected.
