Houston Texans 2013 first-round mock draft

How NFL.com analysts are projecting the first-round picks for the Houston Texans in the 2013 NFL Draft:

Matt "Money" Smith

No. 27: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU

They need someone next to Brian Cushing at that inside linebacker spot, and Minter is a better value here than what's left at wide receiver. They're horribly thin at the position, but you can't convince me that there's a big seperation between Robert Woods, DeAndre Hopkins, Terrence Williams, Quinton Patton, and on and on. One of those will be available with their second-round pick.

Charles Davis

No. 27: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee

A screaming need for a wideout leads the Texans to this Vol. He can provide a nice threat opposite Andre Johnson.

Daniel Jeremiah

No. 27: Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia

I could easily see the Texans selecting Keenan Allen with this pick, but not if Ogletree is somehow still on the board. Houston's front seven is loaded with rangy athletes who have exceptional play speed, and Ogletree would fit right in.

Bucky Brooks

No. 27: Robert Woods, WR, USC

Gary Kubiak needs to find a receiver who can effectively complement Andre Johnson and add some balance to the Texans' passing game. Woods is a cerebral player with underrated skills as a route runner and playmaker.

Akbar Gbajabiamila

No. 27: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA

Jones is a multipurpose defensive lineman who can play the 3- or 5-technique. Wade Phillips could utilize him in multiple packages, showcasing his pass-rushing and playmaking abilities.

Gil Brandt

No. 27: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson

Hopkins plays faster than his times. He has experience as a basketball player and inherently knows how to use his body to get in position to catch the football (82 receptions in 2012). He reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin, though he's actually faster than Boldin was when he came out of Florida State. Hopkins is also very athletic.

Charley Casserly

No. 27: Robert Woods, WR, USC

Andre Johnson could use a partner.
» Full mock draft

Josh Norris

No. 27: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson

Hopkins projects very similarly to Roddy White. He consistently high points passes and maneuvers his body in front of defenders. He also provides strong hands and underrated athleticism.
