Report: Kevin Kolb, Cardinals to meet over contract

How much is quarterback Kevin Kolb worth to the Arizona Cardinals? We're about to find out.

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the Cardinals are expected to huddle with Kolb's representatives later this week, according to a source. Kolb is set to earn $9 million this season, along with an additional $2 million roster bonus due Saturday.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported last month that Kolb's future with the team is "up in the air." There's no way the Cardinals bring Kolb back at his current cost, and there's little to suggest Bruce Arians is galvanized by the 28-year-old passer who's started just 14 games for Arizona over two seasons.

If talks don't lead to a restructured deal and Kolb is set free, he quickly becomes the top prize in a shallow quarterback market. Teams desperate for help under center might be willing ignore Kolb's checkered injury history. The Cardinals themselves have nothing to show at the position, but the Kolb experiment has been an expensive disaster in Arizona.

Locking down passer Brian Hoyer with a second-round tender last week is another indication the Cardinals are preparing to move on from Kolb unless a major pay cut is agreed to.
