Buffalo Bills' Stevie Johnson hits recruiting trail

Stevie Johnson has added recruiter to his list of many talents. The Bills receiver has taken it upon himself to lure free agents Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings and Dashon Goldson to Buffalo.

Rosenthal: Top 85 free agents

This year's free-agent crop lacks star power, but provides immense depth. Gregg Rosenthal ranks available players. **More ...**

"I've talked to a few guys, trying to get them to come to Buffalo," Johnson told The Buffalo News' Tim Graham. "Who knows what's going to happen with Dwayne Bowe or Greg Jennings? But here's hoping they come through.

"I'm trying, man. I feel like we're close, and these fans deserve it. It's been a long time. It's a cycle in this league. We were up for a long time. Then we were down. Now I feel like it's coming around. We have some pieces to make it happen."

The Bills need receiver help with David Nelson and Donald Joneson their way out. A Johnson/Bowe or Johnson/Jennings pairing would be one of the more talented tandems in the NFL.

Goldson and Jairus Byrd play the same defensive secondary position, but that's what we call one of those good problems. Byrd was hit with the franchise tag earlier Friday.

The Bills have the cash to be active in free agency. We'll see how influential Johnson can be. **
