Despite a track record of success as one of the most dynamic players in NCAA football history, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson entered the NFL Scouting Combine with as much to prove as any prospect.
He's off to a good start. Robinson posted an official time of 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash Sunday in Indianapolis.
The wide receiver catching drills will be a more telling indicator of Robinson's draft stock, since NFL scouts are keenly aware he struggled to catch the ball in Senior Bowl practices. In Robinson's defense, he remains only about 60 percent recovered from nerve damage he sustained in an elbow injury nearly four months ago.
While his blazing 40-yard dash and college production make Robinson an intriguing project as a playmaker, the biggest question is, which position will he play in the NFL?
"I think he's a return man with great quickness and speed, and I love his toughness," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said. "The question is, 'Can I turn him into a Wes Welker-type in the slot? Can he field punts?'Â "
