Bruce Allen: No FieldTurf for Washington Redskins in 2013

There are no shortage of subplots surrounding the Washington Redskins these days. This made for nice timing Thursday, when general manager Bruce Allen made himself available to reporters.

The health and rehab of quarterback Robert Griffin III remains the chief subplot surrounding the team, and Allen provided another positive update.

"He's progressing well," Allen said, via Grant Paulsen of WJFK-FM. "He's on schedule or ahead of schedule and it's because of the work ethic that you know he has."

Some other topics hit by Allen:

» Despite the heavy criticism about playing conditions in the playoffs, Allen said a transition from a grass surface to FieldTurf is not an option in 2013. He admitted the team missed its opportunity to re-sod last year.

» Allen is decidedly against the Redskins ever changing their nickname. "It's ludicrous to think that in any way we're trying to upset anybody." ... "We're not a new franchise. We're 81 years old. There's nothing that we feel is offensive."

Inspired by the president, Adam Schein proposes nine bold ideas for making the NFL better -- and more exciting. **More ...**

» Allen is of the belief that London Fletcher is indestructible. "He's got another three or four good years left in him." (Hard to disagree.)

» Allen was optimistic about tight end Fred Davis, recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. "He's progressing well. That's a very serious injury."

» The Redskins are still fighting their salary-cap penalty, despite having had their appeal denied back in May. "I think the penalty was wrong. It was unfair."
