The Saints' offensive coordinator interviewed for the Chicago Bears' head-coaching job, but Carmichael has no plans to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles or the Jacksonville Jaguars about their coordinator vacancies. Carmichael, whose contract is set to expire, says a new deal with the Saints is "going to happen," per The Times-Picayune.
"It's an easy decision for me, especially what's best for my family," Carmichael said Monday from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. "... I think it was a unique circumstance this year with just the whole contract thing. This is going to be a tough place to ever leave for me."
The primary benefactor here is quarterback Drew Brees, who has been linked with Carmichael dating to their time with the San Diego Chargers. Carmichael helped calm the waters in Payton's absence last season, and he remains an important piece of the puzzle for a Saints team hoping this offseason is less chaotic than last year's.
