Report: Woody Johnson says Tim Tebow 'forced' on him

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, by all accounts, was the first to hop aboard the Tim Tebow bandwagon. But Johnson has been telling a different story of late.

Former Denver Broncos executive Ted Sundquist, who interviewed with the Jets this month for their general manager position, told Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com that Johnson described Tebow as being "forced" on both him and team president Neil Glat.

Johnson reportedly told Sundquist he "jumped on board" with the idea after choosing to trust the football side of the operation.

"They realized it was divisive and hard on the locker room, and they wanted an exit strategy," Sundquist said, fueling speculation that Tebow is a goner in Florham Park, N.J.

Not a fun day to be Mike Tannenbaum, the former GM who is being blamed for a deal that spiraled into chaos for the Jets. Now we're being asked to accept that Johnson wanted nothing to do with bringing the radioactive backup quarterback to the Big Apple. Conveniently, coach Rex Ryan also has kept his distance.

Not much has changed, however. Newly hired GM John Idzik now confronts the same issue Tannenbaum muddled through: This team lacks a consistent, productive quarterback. Until that problem is solved, the Jets are in hot water, no matter who pulled the trigger on bringing Tebow to the team.
