Marc Trestman, Darrell Bevell still in play for Bears job

The Chicago Bears' marathon search for a new head coach appears to be headed toward its conclusion.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman was at Halas Hall all day Monday, according to a source informed of the Bears' situation.

Meanwhile, NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has a second interview lined up with the Bears, per a Seahawks source. Bevell first interviewed with Bears general manager Phil Emery on Saturday in Atlanta.

Trestman and Bevell appear to be finalists, but they might not be alone. The Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday that Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians also has emerged as a finalist.

The Bears fired Lovie Smith on Dec. 31 after nine seasons. The Bears' interview list is up to 13 names, with most of them on the offensive side of the ball.

Of course, if Jimmy Johnson is to be believed, all this ongoing speculation is superfluous nonsense distracting us from an inevitable reality.
