Chiefs hire Doug Pederson, Bob Sutton as coordinators

Andy Reid has officially added two major pieces to his Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff.

Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach Doug Pederson was officially announced as the team's offensive coordinator. Former New York Jets assistant coach Bob Sutton has been named defensive coordinator.

As we wrote Thursday, Pederson's hire indicates the Chiefs plan to run the same West Coast offense that Reid used in Philadelphia. Pederson was Reid's quarterbacks coach with the Eagles, and helped to develop Nick Foles. He's a former quarterback himself, serving as the longtime backup with four teams.

"Doug has been around the game a long time, and he has great vision," Reid said in a statement. "As a former player in this league, he sees the game from a different perspective, and that will be a great benefit for our players. He has a knack for developing talent, and he's a good communicator. Doug is ready for this position."

Sutton spent 13 seasons in various roles with the Jets. He coached the linebackers in 2012. Reid calls Sutton "a creative coach that is going to give our defense a variety of looks and packages."

We would hope so.
