(First off, props to Rapoport who has sources at the airport. That's pretty slick.)
The Chargers haven't interviewed any coaches at this point. They wanted to hire a general manager first and former Indianapolis Colts' vice president of football operations Tom Telesco was hired Wednesday. Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is a candidate for the job and admitted the position is much more attractive with Telesco running the show.
Smith would be your classic going-another-direction hire. Norv Turner was an established NFL entity known as an offensive specialist. Smith is all about defense and the Tampa 2.
To be continued...
UPDATE: The Chargers confirmed the interview on their official website on Friday evening.
