Jimmy Raye, Tom Telesco lead San Diego Chargers' GM race

The lead candidates in the San Diego Chargers' general manager search appear to be the team's own director of player personnel, Jimmy Raye, and Indianapolis Colts director of player personnel Tom Telesco, both of whom a source said Sunday were "very impressive" during their interviews.

A decision is expected in the coming days, with Raye having been the lead horse in the race since the job opened up last week.

The GM will join the team's four-man committee -- join Dean Spanos, John Spanos, Ed McGuire and Ron Wolf -- in search of a head coach. The Chargers have started sending out consent forms for coaching candidates.

Chargers brass is headed back to San Diego after three-plus days on the road conducting interviews for the GM vacancy.

The Chargers had to reschedule an interview with San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble for later this week, another sign that he could wind up with the New York Jets, for whom he is the front-runner for the job. The Chargers also had dinner, but did not conduct an interview, with Syracuse coach Doug Marrone last night. Marrone subsequently took the Buffalo Bills' head-coaching job.
