Maurice Jones-Drew regrets waiting on foot surgery

Few players suffered through a more disappointing season than Maurice Jones-Drew.

Harrison: Power Rankings

With the 2012 regular season in the books, what is the NFL pecking order? Elliot Harrison has a brand new No. 1. **More ...**

The Jacksonville Jaguars running back agitated the franchise with a failed summer holdout that gave way to the least productive season of his seven-year NFL career. Jones-Drew played in just six games before missing the final 10 with an injured foot that required surgery last week.

Jones-Drew admitted Monday he should have gone under the knife sooner to address the injury, which remains something of a mystery because Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey doesn't allow his players to give details on their maladies.

"I should have had it a little earlier than when I did, but it's just something that you learn from," Jones-Drew told The Florida Times-Union. "You've just got to keep going."

Immediate surgery was an option, Jones-Drew said, "but at the time when we were talking about it, the thought was to let it heal a little bit and see how things go. Just waited a little too long at the end of the day."

Jones-Drew, who had a career-low 414 yards on the ground, was a nonentity for a weak Jaguars offense. He spent most of last offseason in a battle of wills with the front office over his contract, which runs out after next season. We don't expect that conflict to dominate this winter, spring and summer.
