Polian, 70, was fired by the Colts last year and has been an analyst for ESPN since February. Polian's son, Chris, also was let go by the Colts and now works in the Atlanta Falcons' personnel department. The elder Polian has previous experience as GM of the Carolina Panthers (1994-97) and Buffalo Bills (1986-93), achieving considerable success at each stop.
"People call almost every day. Coaches. Players. Executives," Polian said, in full humblebrag mode. "There's lots of conversations. I'm not going to characterize any conversations with anybody."
Polian is known as a cranky type, a man whose personality might not have gone over well under the microscope in New York. That said, the Jets need serious upgrades across their roster, and that will take a personnel man with the Midas touch.
It just won't be Polian.
