Maurice Jones-Drew placed on Jacksonville Jaguars' IR

In a move that leaves fantasy owners around the world cursing, the Jacksonville Jaguars placed Maurice Jones-Drew on injured reserve Friday. A move that could have been done months ago.

Jones-Drew suffered a left foot injury in October, but the Jaguars said it wasn't season-ending. Months dragged by, and the Jaguars piled up losses without their best player.

The Jaguarslater announced that Jones-Drew will have surgery Friday in Charlotte, N.C., and probably be sidelined until May.

Jones-Drew told The Associated Press earlier this month that he will train on the West Coast and not miss any mandatory camps. He held out for 38 days before the season in the hopes of landing a new contract. That never came.

Jones-Drew is scheduled to make $4.95 million in 2013, the final year of a five-year, $31 million contract. Will the Jaguars be willing to work on an extension with a running back who's coming off a major foot injury? Will Jones-Drew even want to stay in Jacksonville?

Time will tell, but 2012 was not a good 12 months for Jones-Drew.
