Report: Gregg Williams yet to file for reinstatement

Gregg Williams still is under contract with the St. Louis Rams, but his return to the sideline is anything but guaranteed.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Williams -- suspended indefinitely by the NFL for his role in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal -- has yet to apply for reinstatement.

The former Saints defensive coordinator is expected to begin the process soon, according to Schefter. It was reported last month that Williams wanted to bump up his hearing from February, after the Super Bowl, to December, in order to better align himself for potential coaching openings.

Williams' future with the Rams remains cloudy. St. Louis has the coach under contract through the 2014 season, but the organization remains tight-lipped about its plans for Williams. His son, Blake Williams, still works for the Rams as a defensive assistant.

Williams might have trouble latching on with another NFL team. He has burnt bridges with his actions and testimony to the league and presents a complex problem for potential employers. Williams is a talented coach, but he's a tainted one.
