"(Johnson is) second in my book behind Larry (Fitzgerald)," Peterson told Detroit reporters during a conference call, via the Detroit Free Press. "But he's doing great things for the Detroit Lions team, and he's definitely making big plays for those guys as well."
Peterson, of course, picked his teammate, who is second on the Cardinals in receiving yards (652 yards to Andre Roberts' 675) over the opponent on pace to break Jerry Rice's single-season record of 1,848 receiving yards. Of course, Megatron will have Matthew Stafford throwing him the ball on Sunday, while Fitzgerald must try to catch passes from Ryan Lindley.
Peterson said in his mind it's Johnson who will have to go up against the NFL's best player at his position.
"I think I am the best cornerback in the league right now," he said. "I think I'm doing everything that I need to do to keep my name in consideration of the best cornerback."
The second-year pro would like to put his money where his mouth is on Sunday.
"Honestly, I would like to go one-on-one as much as I can," Peterson said. "But I believe we have a pretty good game plan, and I think we'll be ready for whatever those guys throw at us on Sunday."
