Alternative Rankings: This list is for the birds

A number of teams clinched playoff spots this weekend. However, we still have some debate for the bottom of the NFL. Those teams that could end up being No. 1 - in April.

One team flying under the radar is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Nothing about them stands out as impressive (though Cecil Shorts has been a delight for fantasy owners). The most amazing thing is they couldn't even crack the bottom six because there are so many worthy contenders out there.

Undaunted, we will continue our look at those teams competing to have the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, no matter who the top dog is. And until we have a better name, we will continue to refer to this space as the Fans for Barkley.

Others receiving votes: Kansas City Chiefs (2-10); Jacksonville Jaguars (2-10)

Yes, the Jets won and typically teams that win get a week pass from the scrutiny. But guess what, Jets? You won the worst game I've probably ever seen in my life. And I was at the Falcons 8-5 win over the Los Angeles Rams in 1994 (Tommy Maddox threw a pair of picks). So, the Jets will get the credit here they so richly deserve. Plus, people have mentioned the Jets and the playoffs, so let's put the foolishness to bed.

One of the rare teams in the bottom six who are actually set at quarterback for the conceivable future. Yet, this team just finds ways to pull out losses out of the jaws of victory. This team is clearly on the move, but Cam Newton could prevent them from really making a bid because he is playing so well.

To hear the Raiders fans tell it, this team needs to take a step backwards before it can go forward. Uh, sure. Let's go with that. The Raiders had a real chance to make a statement against the Cleveland Browns this week, and they certainly made it. This was the kind of game where the Raiders could have folded the tents and won. But the will and dare I say committment to lose is strong with this franchise.

The Chargers are in a real predicament here. The Chargers need to play poorly enough to keep themselves alive for the No. 1 spot, but Philip Rivers needs to play well enough to sell Chip Kelly on the prospects of moving to San Diego. Or maybe Kelly has a different quarterback in mind for next season. In any event, this is one of the most magical runs by the Chargers in quite some time, and Norv Turner has really outdone himself. I don't know why you're laughing, Cowboys fans. He joins your staff next season.

If you don't think the Eagles are serious about being No. 1, they erased all doubt when they elevated Nick Foles to starter for the rest of the season. Though, this move could certainly backfire on them because Foles was impressive against the Cowboys. Bryce Brown could put a kink into the team's plans, too. If it wasn't for a clutch fumble by Brown at the end of the Cowboys game, the contest could have ended in disaster.

Congratulations to the Cardinals. It takes a special quarterback to take a stunningly good defense and render them completely useless. Even Rex Grossman is impressed by Ryan Lindley. The Cardinals have forced roughly 36 turnovers in the past couple of games, but Lindley has found a way to still get it done. Credit the Cardinals' coaching staff for having the fortitude to stick with Lindley when things were so bleak. Any other quarterback would have found a way to beat the Jets.
