San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was excited when he learned Peyton Manning was coming to the AFC West. Think he still feels that way now?
The Denver Broncos cruised to a 30-23 win over Rivers' Chargers on Sunday, completing a season sweep for Manning's new team.
It was another record-setting day for Manning, whose 13-yard scoring strike to Demaryius Thomas in the second quarter moved the quarterback past Miami Dolphins great Dan Marino for sole possession of second place on the NFL's all-time passing touchdown list. Manning threw three in all Sunday, giving him 24 touchdowns against seven interceptions in 10 games.
If Chargers coach Norv Turner is fired -- and let's face it, that's essentially inevitable at this point -- he'll head into the unknown wondering where his star quarterback went.
Elway, now the Broncos' football operations head, needn't worry about his quarterback when his head hits the pillow. With a favorable schedule ahead, the Broncos are set up nicely for 11 or 12 wins and a high seed in the AFC playoffs. In other words, business as usual for a Peyton Manning team.
