Jerramy Stevens appeared in a Kirkland, Wash., court in connection with a domestic violence case involving U.S. soccer star Hope Solo, who reportedly was supposed to marry the former NFL tight end Tuesday.
SeattlePI.com reported that Stevens, who turned 33 on Tuesday, was released after the judge ruled there was no evidence connecting him to an early Monday morning disturbance at an area home.
Stevens was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree domestic violence assault after authorities responded to a fight involving Solo's older brother, Marcus, who allegedly used a "stun gun" on a group of uninvited men who descended on a party at the residence, according to the police report.
NFL.com and NFL Network requested a copy of that police report but were told it wasn't available because the investigation remains open. Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray told The Associated Press that charges could be filed later if other evidence is found.
Marcus Solo reportedly called police to the home around 3 a.m. Monday. As authorities were preparing to leave, Hope Solo appeared with blood on her elbow, according to the report. "Don't say anything to them, Marcus," she reportedly yelled at her brother.
Hope Solo, whom Kirkland police said had been dating Stevens for about two months, attended Tuesday's hearing. Solo's attorney said she wasn't assaulted, and Solo, 31, didn't comment, KING-TV reported. King County records show Solo and Stevens applied for a marriage license Thursday, according to The AP.
The uninvited guests had vanished by the time police arrived, but authorities still entered the home and found eight intoxicated people, along with "drops of blood inside the house, and there was a woman laying on the kitchen floor with a hip injury," SeattlePI.com reported.
According to the report, police discovered Stevens asleep in an upstairs bedroom. Because he was on the ground behind a bed, authorities inquired why he was hiding. Stevens told them he was simply asleep and hadn't heard the altercation with the uninvited guests, according to the police report.
Authorities' curiosity was piqued when they noticed blood on Stevens' cheek. He told them it might have been the result of Solo kissing him. Stevens didn't have an answer for the dried blood on his shirt, according to the police report.
Stevens did acknowledge that he argued with Solo over whether they would live in Washington or Florida after they were married, and there also were signs of a fight in the bedroom, prompting police to book him on suspicion of fourth-degree assault. But Stevens, who has been involved in a laundry list of past legal issues, wasn't charged.
Stevens last played in the NFL in 2010 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He started his career with the Seattle Seahawks for five seasons before spending four years with the Bucs, making 202 receptions for 2,217 yards and 22 touchdowns.
