Sunday's games are in the books for Week 10. What plays will we remember? Marc Sessler chooses the five runs that defined this weekend's action.
Anyone still worried about Adrian Peterson's knee? Me neither. The Minnesota Vikings star pumped out 171 yards on the ground in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Detroit Lions. A tremendous output, but not a far cry from what Peterson has done week after week this season after surgery to repair his shattered knee. Peterson ripped off 6.3 yards per rush against a Lions defense that had zero answers for the onslaught, especially on this 61-yard touchdown run.
We stuck a fork in the Tennessee Titans, but it's clear they don't spend much time on the site. At least Chris Johnson doesn't. With second-year passer Jake Locker back under center, the Titans dropped a hammer on the Miami Dolphins behind Johnson's 126 yards on 23 carries -- characterized by this tough 17-yard scoring burst. Johnson's been a hot/cold act all season, but it's hard to get into a rhythm when your defense allows 30-plus points a game. The Titans held Miami to just three on Sunday and Johnson enjoyed one of his best days of the season. That's no coincidence.
The Buffalo Bills have built a cottage industry out of losing to the New England Patriots, but crept closer than usual in Sunday's 37-31 defeat. Credit Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller for the nail-biter. Buffalo's backfield duo combined for 150 yards on the ground and another 96 through the air. Jackson was silly on this 14-yard touchdown run through New England traffic. Coach Chan Gailey -- if he's done one thing right with the Bills this season -- has found a way to use his backs effectively. Maybe not as often as either player would like, but effectively.
Last month we were culling rumors about the potential of Chris Ivory being shipped away before the trade deadline. The New Orleans Saints didn't take well to those reports, saying their young back was very much part of the plan. Ivory saw his first action of the season in Monday night's win over the Philadelphia Eagles and built on it Sunday with seven carries for 72 yards, topped by this wild 56-yard touchdown in a season-saving win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Ivory did his best "Beast Mode" impression, but Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch owns the brand and lived up to it in Sunday's 28-7 win over the New York Jets. Lynch was listed as probable with back and wrist injuries before the game, but it was Gang Green that limped away from this one. Lynch rolled up 124 yards on 27 carries. This 17-yard rumble paints a picture of what New York's flailing defense dealt with all Sunday.
