Jonathan Dwyer doubtful for Pittsburgh Steelers

Time to pump the brakes on Jonathan Dwyer's ascension to the top of the Pittsburgh Steelers' running back depth chart.

Dwyer, who has been dealing with a sore quad muscle, missed practice Friday and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants, according to the Beaver County Times.

With Dywer likely on the shelf, Isaac Redman will have another chance to make an impact as the starter. Rashard Mendenhall also is listed as doubtful as he continues to deal with an Achilles issue.

Dwyer has been a revelation to the Steelers' moribund running game, delivering back-to-back 100-yard efforts with Redman and Mendenhall sidelined.

Mendenhall is expected to miss at least another week. Redman has been out since Week 7 with an ankle injury.

When Dwyer returns to the Steelers' lineup, he'll likely find himself in the familiar logjam that opened the season. Redman is getting a one-week audition to stay ahead of Dwyer on the Steelers' depth chart. He'll have to be special.
