Nnamdi Asomugha under fire with Philadelphia Eagles

Nnamdi Asomugha hasn't made the impact the Philadelphia Eagles expected when they landed him on a fat free-agent contract in July 2011.

Kriegel: Another Philly fiasco

You couldn't help but root for Andy Reid this season, but Mark Kriegel says the Eagles are a massive disappointment. **More ...**

With the team at a crossroads, we now have some eyebrow-raising speculation why that might be the case.

ProFootballTalk.com wrote Monday that a "theory" is making its way through league circles and the Eagles' locker room that Asomugha "doesn't care about the game like he used to."

It's a pretty heavy charge to lay at a guy's feet, especially when Father Time -- Asomugha is 31 -- is just as easily the culprit for his declining play.

Asomugha was a shutdown cornerback during his days with the Oakland Raiders, and that's what the Eagles believed they were getting when they signed him to a five-year, $60 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed.

When Asomugha didn't thrive in a different role last season, the Eagles shipped Asante Samuel to the Atlanta Falcons. More familiar responsibilities haven't lifted Asomugha's play.

Asomugha has been open about his interest in a career in acting or broadcasting after his playing days are done, and we're sure that plays into this theory about his hunger for the game.

It looks like Michael Vick won't be the only Eagles star under the microscope this week.
