Injury roundup: Browns could rest Trent Richardson

Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur isn't ruling out anything when it comes to running back Trent Richardson after benching him in the second half against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Richardson wanted to play more, but his rib injury remains a problem.

Shurmur didn't rule out resting Richardson for a week or two before the Browns' bye to get the rookie healthy.

"You just watch him practice and see where he's at physically," Shurmur said, via The Plain Dealer. "If he's ready to play, he'll play. If we see this is bothering him to the point where he can't perform, then we'll make those decisions as we go."

Those are concerning words for fantasy owners. It's a situation to watch closely this week.

Here were the other nuggets on a relatively quiet Monday for injuries:

1. Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg during Monday night's 13-7 loss to the Chicago Bears.

2. Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker (shoulder) wasn't sure if he could play this week. With Tennessee on a two-game winning streak, coach Mike Munchak indicated Matt Hasselbeck will get the call again.

3. The Jacksonville Jaguars won't rule out a Lisfranc injury for running back Maurice Jones-Drew. That's a very bad sign that they even used the L word. Jones-Drew was ruled out for Week 8.

4. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the Green Bay Packers won't test wide receiver Greg Jennings' injured groin until Thursday before possibly having him practice Friday. James Jones and Randall Cobb have played very well in Jennings' absence. Fantasy leaguers shouldn't hold their breath.

5. Indianapolis Colts coach Bruce Arians indicated that running back Donald Brown (knee) will miss another week. Running back Vick Ballard likely will make another start.

6. The Carolina Panthers placed cornerback Chris Gamble on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. It's a devastating loss for a defense that needs all the help it can get. Gamble can be up and down, but he was the best cornerback on the team.

7. The Packers' defense took another big hit. Safety Charles Woodson is out for six weeks with a broken collarbone he suffered during Sunday's 30-20 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

8. It sounds like Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert (non-throwing shoulder) will be available this week. After Chad Henne led the Jaguars to 7.3 yards per drive, that's welcome news in Jacksonville.

9. All signs point toward San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore (bruised ribs) being ready to roll next Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals.

10. The New Orleans Saints expressed optimism that tight end Jimmy Graham (ankle) could return to action this week.
