Drew Brees made NFL history Sunday night when he threw a touchdown pass in his 48th consecutive game. The New Orleans Saints quarterback broke a Johnny Unitas record that some compared to Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak with the New York Yankees.
We're not on board with that comparison -- not even a little -- but you still have to be impressed by Brees' consistency.
Well, you don't have to be impressed. Take Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, for instance.
"(The record) didn't blow me away," Bradshaw told WFAN in New York on Tuesday. "I'm not much on that stuff ... I'm not into records, fellas. I'm just into winning football games. (The Saints) hadn't won a game ... I'm not into records, I'm into winning Super Bowls ... These things aren't important. We lose sight of why we play. We play to win and to win championships, not to break records."
Bradshaw didn't stop there. He also took issue with Brees asking the NFL to allow coach Sean Payton, assistant coach Joe Vitt and general manager Mickey Loomis -- all of whom are serving suspensions -- to attend the record-breaking game.

"I was a little upset that he went to the NFL to get Payton and everybody back to watch him break a record," Bradshaw said. "I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' I never would have gone and asked for them back ... I thought it was disrespectful to the San Diego Chargers ... So break it, go ahead. Hell, you're throwing it 50 times a game ... I'm just against stuff like that. I just don't believe in doing stuff like that."
Terry's fired up! It's worth noting that Bradshaw was a completely different quarterback in a completely different era. Bradshaw threw for more than 3,000 yards just twice in 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He never threw for more than 28 touchdowns. These are numbers Brees has been known to eclipse by Thanksgiving.
We call Era Envy on Bradshaw, but we see his point about hosting the "bounty" family reunion for a record that's largely meaningless in the grand scheme of things. At least Brees and Ben Roethlisberger will have something to talk about at the next big NFLPA function.
