INDIANAPOLIS -- If there's one thing we've learned in the first two weeks of the 2012 NFL season, it's that Andrew Luck loves the two-minute drill.
Against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, Luck took the field with 44 seconds left in the half, completed four passes and put Adam Vinatieri in line for a 37-yard field goal.
On Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, Luck threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne with 14 seconds left in the first half, then led his team onto the field with 31 seconds left in regulation. Three snaps. Three completions for 47 yards. Then Vinatieri drilled a 53-yard field goal with 12 seconds left for the 23-20 victory.
Luck said the Colts' system is quarterback friendly with two-word play calls. The team also spends plenty of practice time working on it.
"I wish it didn't have to be like this," Luck said. "If we come out in the second half and play a little better ... it doesn't have to be like this.
"To get a win is something I really wanted for this team. ... We don't have that (getting victory No. 1) looming over us next week."
Added Colts coach Chuck Pagano: "He's calm, he doesn't get rattled."
Luck finished with 224 passing yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 107.5 passer rating. The first touchdown was a 3-yard fastball to Dwayne Allen, who had three defenders surrounding him. The touchdown to Wayne was a post route that dropped over a linebacker deep in coverage and in between safeties playing Cover 2.
The fact that Luck was sacked just twice might be the most impressive stat of the day. The Colts' offensive line is banged up, including center Samson Satele, who left with a knee injury just before halftime. Luck pivoted when pressure came up the middle, stepped into the pocket when Jared Allen flew off the corner and ran when necessary. His pocket presence kept him upright.
Luck ho-hummed his way through an answer when asked if the monkey was off his back. He now has half of the wins the Colts had in all of 2011.
"It wasn't a huge monkey," Luck said.
