Rex Ryan jokes Jeremy Kerley has 'the Pittsburgh flu'

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan met with reporters Wednesday and gave the lowdown on where a handful of his banged-up players stand for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

We'll bring you more from that session later today, but let's start with Ryan's take on wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, who was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, but emerged from a win over the Buffalo Bills with a lower back injury.

Ryan said he met with Kerley and asked if he'd come down "with the Pittsburgh flu," a sickness the coach claims to have witnessed in other NFL players before games against the physical Steelers defense.

Ryan is clearly hell-bent on beating Pittsburgh, who kept the Jets out of the Super Bowl with an AFC Championship win over New York in 2010. Ryan talked about the heavy spread of 30-something defenders in Pittsburgh as a positive, saying that experience prevents mistakes on the field (and apparently causes sickness in Florham Park).
