Chris Cooley returning to Washington Redskins?

When Chris Cooley was cut by the Washington Redskins a few weeks back, we came up with six potential teams he could wind up on. The Redskins were on the list, although we thought Cooley could do better by finding a starting job elsewhere.

Harrison: Power Rankings

What is the NFL pecking order entering Week 1 of the 2012 campaign? Elliot Harrison ranks every team, from 1 to 32. **More ...**

He hasn't. And now it sure sounds like he's coming back to Washington.

"Yes, absolutely that door is still open," Redskins general manager Bruce Allen said Friday, via the Washington Post. "We have a meeting next week."

Cooley wanted to see what was out there for him on the free-agent market. We only surmise that he hasn't received an offer more attractive than what he could get in Washington.

If the Redskins sign Cooley after Week 1, they don't have to guarantee his salary for the season.

"I can't guarantee what will happen. But this is where I want to live and play, so I'd definitely be open to talk," Cooley told Mark Maske.

The Redskins could use depth behind starter Fred Davis; the team also likes Niles Paul. Cooley also could wind up playing fullback some if he returns to the team.
