Holmgren: Joe Haden waiting on suspension appeal

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren broke a little news on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland on Tuesday morning.

First, he confirmed a previous report from ESPN Cleveland that cornerback Joe Haden had been notified of a four-game suspension from the NFL. Holmgren said that Haden had an appeal hearing with the league and was waiting to hear the final word from the league office.

"I (have) never been able to figure that whole thing out," Holmgren said. (Haden's) had his appeal hearing and now it's up to someone else. And we don't know."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league had no comment on Holmgren's comments. Haden said Monday he had no idea if he would be suspended.

"I suspect though if we haven't heard by now that we'll have him for the first game," Holmgren said. "I think but I don't know for sure."

We wouldn't assume Haden will be available against the Philadelphia Eagles just yet. It's not unprecedented for the NFL to announce suspensions on the Tuesday before a Sunday game. If we don't hear anything by the end of the day, we'd think that Haden will be available to play.
